BIRCH RUN (WJRT) - (02/16/18) - A 15-year-old Birch Run High School student has been suspended and could be charged with a crime after making a threat of violence.
Al Swearengin, Birch Run's police chief, said the threat was made while several teens played video games online.
During a recent gaming session the 15-year-old asked another teen if he would join him if he followed through with his threat. On Thursday that teen told someone at the school about the conversation.
The district has suspended the teen, and Swearengin said the prosecutor's office is considering charges against the 15-year-old.
The district released the following statement on Facebook:
"Dear Panthers and Parents,
This morning we were given information that one of our students had made a threat. We immediately investigated the situation and can say that at no time were any of our students at risk. However, we do not take any threat to the safety of your children lightly. Because of this we are conducting a thorough investigation. We have also contacted the police department, who are assisting us with the investigation. We place our students safety as our highest priority. We will continue to do all that we can to keep our building a safe and welcoming environment.
