FLINT (WJRT) (1/8/2018) - Big changes will be coming to Genesee County's 7th Circuit Court over the next year.

On Monday morning, Brian Pickell announed his candidacy and intentions to run for judge. He hopes to fill one of the openings that will be available when both Geoffrey Nethercut and Judith Fullerton retire at the end of the year.

Both judges will meet Michigan's maximum age and experience level, so they are not allowed to seek another term.

Pickell has been a practicing attorney for more than 20 years in both Oakland and Genesee counties. He's the son of Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell.

"Once I found out about the opening, that's when I thought to myself, 'I'd really like to help and serve the community in a big way,'" Brian Pickell said. "I can't think of a better opportunity than to be on the court. The court can have a big impact on the community as a whole and individuals in particular."

The primary election is set for Aug. 28.
