(WJRT) - (5/10/19) - Cases of mumps are on the rise this year.
The CDC is reporting more than 300 cases of mumps in the United States in the last month.
That brings the total for the year to more than 700.
Cases have been reported in 41 states including Michigan.
Mumps is caused by a virus and spread through saliva. Outbreaks usually occur among people who have close contact, such as on college campuses and among sports teams.
The best way to prevent mumps is with a vaccine.
