MT. PLEASANT (WJRT) - (02/20/19) - The man credited for putting CMU's gymnastics program into the regional and national spotlight is now on paid administrative leave.
In a brief statement released Wednesday, Central Michigan Athletics announced head coach Jerry Reighard has been asked to step away from his coaching duties, pending an internal investigation.
CMU says Associate Head Coach Christine MacDonald will step up to provide leadership for the team in his absence.
No further details about the circumstances of the investigation were provided by the university.
Reighard's profile online says that the Westland native holds two CMU degrees and a coaching career that began at Ionia High School in the early 80's. He has been coaching award-winning gymnasts at Central since the 1984-85 season.
