DETROIT (WJRT) (1/13/2019) - The North American International Auto Show is now underway.
GM kicked off the 30th annual and final winter Auto Show Sunday with the unveiling of the new Cadillac SUV.
GM looking at becoming the pinnacle of luxury vehicles with their new 2020 XT6.
"Cadillac is coming to play and to win in the luxury SUV market,” Cadillac president Steve Carlisle said.
GM led off the last winter Auto Show with their new XT6 that comes with three rows of seating.
"Giving six passengers a great experience and all with a little more than an Escalade presence," he said.
The Escalade wasn't the only influence in this design.
Carlisle says there was some inspiration from the Cadillac Escala concept car shown off during the 2016 auto show.
The XT6 is also GM's only reveal for the 2019 Auto Show until 2020 when the event takes place during the summer.
Still, this new SUV is a tip of what's to come from GM as they're working towards zero emissions, zero crashes, and zero congestion.
"We are working to elevate Cadillac to a position we describe as the pinnacle of mobility,” Carlisle said.
One project showed during the unveiling how GM is pushing towards using batteries to power their Cadillac vehicles.
"In addition to designing the battery packs to provide tremendous flexibility to meet customer range needs within the footprint of the vehicle. The architectural design will allow the battery packs to fit into the vehicle like ice cubes into an ice cube tray,” Carlisle said.
