Co-workers celebrate 30 years of McService

KOCHVILLE TOWNSHIP (WJRT) - (12/06/18) - A pair of McDonald's co-workers are celebrating a milestone not many people reach.

Thursday afternoon as their shifts were ending co-workers, family and friends gathered to surprise Bruce Campbell and Sandra Boone.

"When I seen those balloons I didn't know what those balloons meant, I didn't know it was for me," Boone said.

For 30 years Boone and Campbell have worked at the McDonald's restaurant on Tittabawassee Road in Saginaw County's Kochville Township.

Boone makes sure the food is prepped and ready to go, while Campbell keeps the restaurant clean and running smoothly.

Lori Spence, Campbell's sister, spoke to us about her brother's commitment to the restaurant. "Although Bruce is deaf, he is one of the most content happy people that I know, and he's pretty much, you love your job," Spence said.

Spence said when the phone rings at 2 a.m. Campbell never hesitates. "He never says no. He's a very dedicated employee," Spence said.

Boone said it's easy to be dedicated when you're in the right place. "I love people, I love all my co-workers, I love my customers. I like to make everybody happy," she said.

The McDonalds team loves them too. They are familiar and friendly faces who bring something extra to the table.

"More often than not everyone comes in and they all know Bruce or Sandra, they know them by name, they look for them, they ask for them," said Jim Rauschenberger, an operations manager for McDonald's.

We asked Boone about the secret to 30 years at the golden arches and she said it was simple. "I always try to come here every day with a smile. A smile go a long ways, people don't know you can make somebody day by giving them a smile or giving them a hug," she said.

And while Campbell has been at the Kochville Township restaurant for three decades, he got his start two-years earlier at the McDonald's that used to be near the Dow Event Center in downtown Saginaw.

"He just has loved his job ever since he's been. And hopes to work here until he retires," Spence said about Campbell.
