WASHINGTON (WJRT) (1/9/2019) - Congressman Dan Kildee has been selected to serve on
the powerful Ways and Means Committee in the U.S. House, which has jurisdiction over tax, trade and health care issues.
“I am honored to join the House Ways and Means Committee and I am ready to get to work on policies that help to grow our economy and provide more opportunities for all Americans,” said Kildee. “We need to have a tax code that grows the middle class, fair trade deals that benefit workers and affordable health care for all Americans."
The coveted seats are sought after by lawmakers, because they have a voice on key economic policy issues.
The House Ways and Means Committee has vast jurisdiction over important programs including Social Security, unemployment insurance, Medicare, enforcement of child support laws, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and foster care and adoption programs.
Former Congressman Dave Camp of Midland, who represented Michigan's 4th District, was chairman of the Ways and Means Committee from 2011 to 2015.
