FLUSHING (WJRT) - (04/23/2019) - It's a very unique concept. If anyone walks inside The Rusty Blue Shelf in Flushing and find something they want, it's best to buy it right away.
"You got to grab it because a lot of times people will even turn around to go look at something else and someone grabbed what they wanted," Wendi Irwin said. She is the owner of the store.
The antique store is only open once a month for four days.
"It seems very popular in other parts of the country to just do market weekends."
Open Market Weekend allows customers to shop from Thursday to Sunday. It's the only opportunity to get what they want from the store that month. If you miss it, you have to wait until the following month.
"They love it, we've had customers who have said please don't go more than that, they love the four days, they look forward to it."
However, by the next month, your item could be gone because the goal is have new items for each Open Market Weekend.
"It takes a lot of work because we're always keeping the store fresh so a lot of times we're here late at night getting the shop ready," Irwin said. "A lot of times on Thursday morning, they are at the door waiting for us to open."
The shop has items like a typewriter, an old Chemistry set and a lunch box. At least seven vendors have their items set up in the shop. Irwin said a lot of collectors come through the door.
"It's unique one-of-kind items that we've found so people know, get here and get here early".
Open Market at the shop will be April 25-28. Doors open at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning.
