OTSEGO COUNTY (WJRT) (5/14/2019) - A metro-Detroit man was arrested up north after Michigan State Police troopers found a loaded gun during a traffic stop.

Jeffery Prather of Dearborn was pulled over in Otsego County's Charlton Township late Sunday night. Officers say the 57-year-old was shining amber and green lights into a nearby field after hours.

Police say Prather was shining the lights at 11:20 p.m., past the time when shining ends at 11 p.m. He told police he was in the area visiting his cabin.

During the stop, troopers found a loaded .22 magnum rifle in the center console of Prather's Ford Transit van. Police seized the gun and ammunition during the stop.

He's now charged with possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, possession of a loaded firearm while using artificial lighting and violating Michigan conservation law.
