FLINT (WJRT) (2/20/2019) - Many people may remember Atlas Coney Island on Corunna Road.
It was a staple in the community for decades before the owners closed the restaurant in 2017. In September 2018, a local family bought the property, renovated the building and renamed it Dom's Diner.
"I kind of wanted to bring that same feeling it used to have back in the day to this more modernized kind of diner look we have here," Dominic Berishaj said. "The tables, new floors, drop ceilings, back splashes -- everything is brand new."
Berishaj is 20 years old. He owns and operates the diner while his father owns Captain Coty's on Ballenger Highway.
"It's in my blood, you know. It kind of grew into me so I kind of know the ins and outs here pretty much, he said.
Berishaj said they opened the business in Flint area because it has a special place in their hearts.
"We have a lot of faith in this community. The Flint community has been supporting us for years and years," he said.
Berishaj doesn't really have a life outside the restaurant.
"It's kind of hard to do other activities because, I mean, you just have to put in long hours when you are in the restaurant business," he said. "Whatever the future brings, I enjoy the restaurant business, it's always something I've wanted to do."
