FEMA reminds people to carefully read their determination letters
(08/23/2017) - Advice from FEMA for victims of June's flash floods: read you determination letters carefully. There may be an easy-to-resolve reason for being informed that you're not eligible for disaster help.
A common problem is that FEMA didn't get a copy of an insurance determination letter. Other reasons include: the documents weren't signed, the owner didn't prove occupancy or ownership, damage was done to a secondary home or rental property and a FEMA housing inspector can't reach the applicant by phone.
If you have questions, call the FEMA helpline at (800) 621-3362.
