DETROIT (WJRT) (4/16/2019) - Fans of Detroit's big four professional sports teams can declare their loyalty with new license plates available from the Michigan Secretary of State's Office.
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson unveiled the new plates on Tuesday featuring Lions, Pistons, Red Wings and Tigers logos.
Like other logo license plates, proceeds from the pro team plates will go to their respective charitable foundations. Each plate costs $35 and $25 of that will go to the foundations, along with all $10 of the annual renewal fee.
“Buying a plate also will support the teams’ charitable efforts promoting the well-being of our children,” Benson said.
The new plates are available online, by mail or at any Secretary of State branch. Drivers only need to complete and send a plate order form to receive one.
Personalized team license plates also can be made, but they are limited to five letters or digits.
