Flint named sixth most violent city in United States
(6/24/2018) - Flint saw a huge spike in violent crimes last year, ending as the sixth most violent in the United States.
According to statistics reported to the FBI, violent crime in the city was up nearly 23 percent in 2017 compared with 2016. The FBI defines violent crime as murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.
St. Louis had the highest violent crime rate for cities with more than 50,000 people, followed by Detroit and Baltimore.
The new data reveals that Flint had 334 more reported incidents of violent crime in 2017 compared to 2016.
The city of Flint reported a total of 1,879 violent crimes in 2017, including 37 murders, 104 rapes, 272 robberies and 1,466 aggravated assaults.
The city of Saginaw reported 15 murders, 50 rapes, 75 robberies and 622 aggravated assaults.
