FLINT (WJRT) (5/14/2018) - Police say the body found in the rubble five days after a Flint house burned last weekend and was demolished had been there since the fire.

The fire happened on East Gracelawn Avenue near Martin Luther King Avenue around 2 p.m. May 5, completely destroying the abandoned house.

A demolition crew removed most of the rubble, except the foundation, last week.

A neighbor reported the body to police on Thursday while taking his dog for a walk. He noticed a foul odor and saw a cloud of flies on the back part of the lot where the burned house once stood.

He called the Flint Police Department arrived and officers discovered the body.

Flint Police Department Det. Sgt. Tyrone Booth could not say on Monday how long the body had been in the house before the fire and whether the person died as a result of the fire or another cause.

The body has not been identified due to the extent of the burns.
