They competed in the Worldstrides Heritage Festival and managed to have a little fun, too.

The group had dinner at Gino's East then checked out the hit show Hamilton.

After they played Saturday, the students participated in the awards ceremony on a cruise ship - the Spirit of Chicago.

They won the gold award, which means they scored higher than any band or orchestra.

Unofficial captain Eboni Taylor won the Maestro Award for outstanding individual performance.

The team competed with groups from all over the country and as far away as California.

Band Director James Coviak calls it a "life changing event" for the 11 to 17-year-old students.
