FLINT (WJRT) (1/29/2018) - He's back.

Former Flint Mayor Dayne Walling announced on social media on Monday that he plans to run for the 49th District State House seat this year.

Walling was mayor when the Flint water crisis began and lost his seat to Mayor Karen Weaver, who won in November 2015. He first was elected in 2009 after the resignation of Don Williamson.

Walling is planning a campaign based on adequately preparing students for careers or college and fixing failed infrastructure.

Democrat Phil Phelps holds the house seat now, but is unable to run again this year because of term limits. The district represents parts of Flint city, Flint Township, Swartz Creek, Flushing and Mt. Morris.
