Gov. Whitmer stops in Flint to talk about future plans for Michigan

FLINT (WJRT) - (01/12/2019) - Newly elected Governor Gretchen Whitmer stopped in Flint to meet people and talk about her future plans. Many people say she is a "down to earth" person and willing to listen.

"I met her once, and she changed my whole view, meeting her is like a big deal to me," Aaron X said. He attended her the event on Saturday.

Whitmer said her main concern is safe drinking water for the people of Flint. She said earning back their trust is going to be one of her hardest battles.

"It's been violated, it's been taken for granted, and that's one of the hardest things I'm going to do,I'm determined to do that, that's why I am here today," Whitmer said.

She mentioned that she is in no rush to make quick decisions because she wants to make sure all facts are correct when examining the water.

"We are working our tails off to make sure we stay connected with mayor Weaver and my new head of DEQ is working extremely hard to make sure we actually have all the science and the facts."

Whitmer's first State of the state speech is February 5th at the Michigan Capitol at 7 p.m.

"I'm going to talk a little about where we are, what the expectations are, what our goals are, how we build bridges and do it together and a year from now, I expect to start checking things off that list," Whitmer said.
