GRAND BLANC (WJRT) - (04/17/19) - Grand Blanc Community Schools is alerting the community of potential chickenpox exposure.
Anyone who attended the Grand Blanc High School performance of "The Addams Family" last Friday may have been exposed to the virus.
The district is working with the Genesee County Health Department on the response. Children or adults experiencing symptoms such as the signature itchy rash should call their doctor immediately.
The health department says the contagious, viral disease can be prevented by a vaccine. The varicella zoster virus that causes chickenpox also is responsible for the shingles in older adults.
Symptoms usually appear two to three weeks after exposure. They include a rash that turns into fluid-filled blisters and eventually scabs. The rash and spread all over the body, including onto mucus membranes.
Other symptoms include fever, tiredness, headaches and loss of appetite.
