GRAND BLANC (WJRT) (5/13/2019) - The Grand Blanc community is honoring the late Charlie Carmody, the beloved teacher and voice of the Bobcats.
"He loved the school and the community," said senior lacrosse captain Elizabeth King. "He was someone that was always there to light up the room and be a friend to everyone."
That light won't be forgotten.
"Tonight is all about him. Showcasing what his legacy is about, what he was about, the things he believed in, and the things we believe in too because of him," said King.
For the Grand Blanc girls varsity lacrosse team, Charlie Carmody Night is a night to remember as they honor the teacher and mentor who suddenly passed away three years ago.
"There are going to be many students in Grand Blanc who aren't even going to know who Charlie Carmody was," said coach John Wainio. "So we want to keep that energy, that enthusiasm, that culture that he talked about for Grand Blanc Community Schools and just the love that he had for his students alive as much as we can."
The memorial event begins at 5:45 at Frank Thomas Field as the Carmody family will be honored and the voice of the Bobcats will be remembered.
"All the gate proceeds go to the Charlie Carmody Education Fund," said Wainio."It's a very exciting time for all of us to remember Charlie and carry on his legacy."
The girls Lacrosse team will be wearing patches during the game to remember Carmody as they play in his honor.
