FLINT (WJRT) - (12-31-18) - Grant money will help continue an art program for patients at Hurley Children's Hospital in Flint.
The hospital says the $10,121 award comes from the Child Welfare Society of Flint.
Through the program, an artist will visit patients and their siblings each week.
Hurley says art allows children to have a sense of normalcy while being treated.
It says young patients who have opportunities to be creative heal faster and go home with less emotional distress.
The art program covers Hurley’s 28-bed Pediatrics Unit, 14-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and Pediatric Emergency Department.
The hospital says the grant money is expected help about 1,500 children in one year.
