Health warning: algae blooms on Michigan lakes

By  |

Oakland County (WJRT) - (8-10-17) - The Oakland County Health Department says dangerous algae blooms are invading lakes.

They say the blooms look like paint or oil on a lake surface.

When they are green, you know they have harmful toxins.

Sugden Lake in White Lake Township and Pontiac Lake in Waterford are affected right now.

The blooms happen when there there is strong sunshine, and very little wind or rain to mix up the lake waters.

The health department warns next week's weather could cause even more blooms to develop.
