GRAND BLANC (WJRT) (2/8/2018) - Big changes are coming to Holy Family Catholic Church, as a multi-million dollar project is about to get underway.
It's about $3 million worth of work at the Grand Blanc church.
"It really hasn't been touched since the mid 1960's," said Monsignor Jerry Vincke. "The diocese started a big campaign and they said if you want to do a church renovation, now is the time."
That's when the fundraising efforts began. While Vincke said the church will maintain most of its current beauty, there are upgrades that need to be made.
"Two of our bathrooms aren't handicapped accessible, we don't have a gathering space and there is really no place for moms and babies to go if the baby starts crying," he said.
It's not just changes coming to the current building. There will also be an expansion to the church creating hundreds of new seats for the parishioners.
With renovations taking quite some time, Vincke said that they will be moving mass into a separate building.
"We have a Father Bush Parish Center. Father Bush was our first pastor here. He's the one that got it started here," Vincke said. "That's where we will have our Sunday masses."
Changes will also be made expanding the parking lot and creating some extra landscaping around the churches campus.
Vincke hopes the project can start this summer and wrap up sometime in 2019.
