FLINT (WJRT) (12/3/2018) - Hurley Children's Hospital is closing in on the lead for a third straight win in the Vote for Miracles contest.
Dr. Alan Klein, a dentist in Grand Blanc, is giving the hospital 10,000 reasons to take the lead. He will donate $10,000 to Hurley Children's Hospital if it pulls into first place, even if Hurley doesn't win in the end.
Klein's donation would come from the Sheppy Dog Fund, which he created in memory of his dog. Over the years, the fund has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Hurley Children's Hospital.
The Vote for Miracles contest through the Children's Miracle Network offers a $50,000 top prize to the hospital that gets the most votes. Hurley won the past two years.
The $60,000 from winning this year would go toward enhancing pediatric and child life programming. That also includes the pediatric intensive care unit, pediatric oncology unit and the use of private rooms for patients.
As of Monday afternoon, Hurley Children's Hospital was less than 2,000 votes behind Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids for the lead. The public can cast one vote each day through Dec. 18.
