MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) (3/7/2018) - Crashes and slide-offs caused by icy roads kept police officers busy all over Mid-Michigan on Wednesday evening.
Snow fell throughout the day across the region, but temperatures at or above the freezing mark made roads merely wet and a little slushy.
However, temperatures tumbled just in time for the evening commute, causing the moisture to freeze into a layer of black ice.
One of the trouble spots, traffic was backed up for miles on eastbound I-69 near I-475 around 6 p.m. All three eastbound lanes eventually were closed due to a crash involving a travel trailer and three other vehicles.
A Flint Police Department patrol SUV was involved in the crash, but there was no word on injuries. The shutdown lasted about for five hours.
