International Academy of Flint closed Wednesday after tests inconclusive
(11/14/2017) - The International Academy of Flint will be closed again Wednesday after a day-long search for the source of a noxious odor turned up no clues.
The school was evacuated around 9:30 a.m. Monday after staff and students complained of an odor like natural gas spreading through the building. The building reopened about an hour later.
It was the third time the school was evacuated since classes resumed this fall.
Administrators canceled classes on Tuesday so Consumers Energy natural gas crews could use a specialized Sniffer Truck designed to detect gas odors in the air. Nothing was located, including around common sources like the boilers.
Administrators and Consumers crews had no explanation for the odor Tuesday evening. Classes were canceled again on Wednesday so the search could continue.
Classes are canceled again tomorrow.
