ISABELLA COUNTY (WJRT) (4/15/2019) - An Isabella County man is facing an attempted murder charge for a vicious assault on his girlfriend, according to police.
The Isabella County Sheriff's Office says a 47-year-old woman was at her residence with her 60-year-old boyfriend, when her phone rang around 2:30 a.m. Friday on Riviera Lane in Weidman.
He got very upset when she took the call and he grabbed her phone.
They started fighting while lying in bed and her boyfriend would not let the 47-year-old use the phone. The woman told police that her boyfriend threw her around the room violently and wrapped a belt around her neck, which he used to drag her around the house.
The woman said her boyfriend threatened to kill her several times.
Police say the abuse continued when the woman's boyfriend held a knife to her throat, hit her and slammed her head into the floor several times. She escaped into a bathroom, but her boyfriend pushed his way in and held her head under water in the bathtub.
After that, police say her boyfriend dragged the woman outside, placed her head on some concrete steps and pressed on her neck.
While that was happening, police say the woman's phone rang again and her boyfriend answered it. He spoke with someone on the other end, which seemed to calm him down.
The woman told her boyfriend to leave her house and he did, after which she called police. The sheriff's office found him at a neighboring residence and arrested him.
The woman was taken to a an area hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Her boyfriend remains in the Isabella County Jail facing an attempted murder charge.
