Lapeer County sheriff's officials accused of making inflammatory remarks on video

LAPEER COUNTY (WJRT) (12/6/2018) - Lapeer County Sheriff Scott McKenna is investigating whether his deputies made inflammatory remarks on video defaming the Flint area.

A video circulating on social media this week appears to show officials from the sheriff's office saying disturbing things about the Flint area and the Flint Police Department.

McKenna believes the conversation captured on the video took place a year or two ago in a hallway at the Lapeer County Courthouse. Some of the remarks questioned the professionalism of Flint police and defamed the city.

McKenna said he worked for the Mt. Morris Township Police Department for 20 years before being elected sheriff and worked daily during that time with Flint police officers, who he considers "family."

"Under no circumstances do I condone any negative comments against Flint City Police Department or any other department," his statement says.

McKenna said the internal investigation is at its beginning stages. He could not say when it will be complete.

"We do take these allegations extremely serious and they will be thoroughly investigated," the statement says.
