Lawyers want court to reopen Saginaw parking chalk case

SAGINAW (WJRT) - (5/15/19) - There is a new push to reconsider a ruling that made chalking tires illegal in Saginaw.

The city uses chalk to mark tires so workers can return to see if the vehicle still is parked in the same spot.

A federal court ruled marking tires qualifies as a search under the Fourth Amendment and could be illegal.

But lawyers who work for governments across the country say the decision could have a negative effect on parking enforcement in more states.

The International Municipal Lawyers Association is asking the full appeals court to reopen the case.
