Local artist, Anni Crouter, showcases lifelike animals at Second Friday ARTWALK

FLINT (WJRT) - (04/12/19) - A chance for people in Flint to get a glimpse of a different world -- through art.

Anni Crouter has always been surrounded by animals. Her father and her husband are both veterinarians. She wanted to be a vet when she was young as well, but instead, she found another talent.

She took her passion for animals and gave them life on a canvas. Crouter is a local artist, and her work was featured in a Solo Exhibit during Greater Flint Arts Council's Second Friday ARTWALK at The Ferris Wheel.

The event in Flint was extra special for Anni.

"I haven't done much in Flint. I've been all over the world but not here, and I'm from here. It's exciting to share the work with everybody," Crouter said.

Crouter was born in Chicago but raised in Flint. Her artwork mostly focuses on wildlife including barn cats, dogs, birds, and her favorite animal -- horses.

Crouter says she never gets tired of painting horses because they're always a fun challenge. Her work has been featured in places like Johannesburg in South Africa and Barcelona in Spain.

Phil Hagerman, the CEO of Skypoint Ventures, says it's important to recognize the talent we have in this city.

"Flint is on an incredible ride right now as a comeback, and what we need to do is take advantage of every incredibly talented individual in this community. We have so much talent in the community. We have to showcase it. We have to embrace it. Today is about embracing Anni's great work," Hagerman said.

This is Crouter's first of two local Solo Exhibitions.

The next one will be on Sunday, April 14 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Silver Lake Stables in Linden.
