SHIAWASSEE COUNTY (WJRT) (12/13/2017) - Troy Gorden, who worked 30 years on ambulances and as a 911 dispatcher, was receiving a long-awaited kidney transplant on Wednesday.
Gorden was forced to retire a few years ago when his single kidney began to fail. He was placed on the kidney transplant list, which has a five- to seven-year wait on average.
However, a living donor named Traci came forward and gave Gorden one of her kidneys on Wednesday. Both of them headed into surgery Wednesday morning to complete the transplant.
Gorden underwent 14 surgeries last summer to deal with his illness.
