(04/11/18) -- If you've ever been to the emergency room, chances are you know how frustrating waiting can be.

That's why Mclaren Hospital in Flint has come out with a new option that allows patients to schedule an appointment ahead of time, instead of waiting.

It's called InQuicker, where patients can select an available time online during the day and see a doctor within 15 minutes of arriving for an appointment.

"We know it's not always easy to get to your doctor at certain times of the day, if you're working, if you have other commitments, so this is our ability of reaching out to patients and their families and say we're here 24/7," said ER Medical Director Dr. Ray Rudoni.

The system knows if you should see a doctor right away versus later in the day, depending on the ailment.

"If however, you were to type in severe headache, chest pain or fainting, it might tell you at the end that this is an emergency medical condition and you ought to call 911 or come to the hospital," Rudoni said.

So how does it work?

McLaren health officials say patients can simply go to McLaren's web site and on the right hand side, click 'check in now.'

From there, patients fill out personal information including their reason for the visit and their selected time.

"We will on our end here at the hospital receive an alert, a fax as well as electronically, through our paging system that such and such individual has scheduled an appointment," said Nurse Director Amena Beslic.

McLaren Flint launched the service March 19th.

Other McLaren subsidiaries have also started using InQuicker.
