MIDLAND (WJRT) (12/15/2017) - A Metro Detroit man was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted of the 1991 murder of his ex-girlfriend's mother.

A jury in October convicted Michael McIntyre of first-degree murder in the death of 43-year-old Diane Ross, a double leg amputee found beaten in her bed inside her Midland County residence.

Ross had been viciously beaten with a broken pool cue stick in front of her 5-year-old grandson, who ran to get help.

The case had gone cold for years, but police arrested 52-year-old McIntyre in March 2016 after a cold case team reviewing unsolved murders turned up new evidence against him. The evidence included enhanced DNA testing and new witness interviews.
