(09-20-18) - Get ready to be inspired.

A Corunna teacher and principal are using literacy, learning, and travel to encourage children to dream big.

They just returned from a once-in-a-lifetime student trip to the Kennedy Space Center's Visitor Complex in Port Canaveral, Florida.

ABC 12 Project Imagination was with the group when it received a special, private tour and met retired astronaut Norm Thagard, M.D.

The trip was organized by teacher Tracy Foster and principal Shannon Cooper-Toma.

They co-authored the Benson's Adventures books about a turtle who travels to unique and interesting places.

Toma and Foster also created Benson's Literacy Foundation to help promote literacy and learning.

The non-profit has donated thousands of books to Michigan children and schools.

The foundation teamed up with some local sponsors to pay for the NASA trip for six Shiawassee County elementary students.

Contributions came from Barb and Jeff Foland, Dr. Wax Orthodontics, and Dave Minarik Financial Advisor Edward Jones.
