FLINT (WJRT) (10/5/2018) - Preparation for next year's $44 million project on I-475 is leading to lane and ramp closures beginning on Monday.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is starting joint repairs and resurfacing on I-475 from Carpenter Road to Clio Road, along with repaving ramps at the I-75 and I-69 interchanges.

Next year, the entire three-mile stretch of I-475 between Carpenter and Clio roads will be completely rebuilt. The stretch from Carpenter to Saginaw roads will shrink to two lanes.

Pavement repair and maintenance is planned on most of the 18-mile freeway next year, as well.

For next week, motorists should watch for intermittent shoulder single-lane and double-lane closures between Carpenter and Clio roads during most of the week.

Interchange ramps also will be closed:
-- Southbound I-475 to eastbound and westbound I-69.
-- Northbound I-475 to westbound I-69.
-- Westbound I-69 to northbound and southbound I-75.

MDOT says repaving the ramps will improve the pavement so they can handle additional traffic as detour routes during next year's construction.
