National Center for Missing and Exploited Children launches new app

UNDATED (WJRT) - (10/28/16) - It's a time when seconds count.

A child goes missing and authorities jump into action, but a new app has been developed to help that process and give parents peace of mind at the same time.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children just launched Safety Central.

Safety Central was designed to help parents and guardians act quickly should their child go missing. It lets users enter their child's information, photo and digital fingerprint to be used only by the NCMEC and law enforcement. The organization says timing is critical when a child is missing, and this app provides law enforcement with the tools they need to start the search with the touch of a button.

Users can also view posters of missing children by state and make reports to the NCMEC if they have information. Plus there's safety tips and updates.

We reached out to police departments across Mid-Michigan to get their take on this new app. None of them had heard about it yet but they all agreed that it sounds like a good idea.
