OWOSSO (WJRT) - (02/13/19) -New owners. New experience.
Owosso Speedway will open this spring and bring fans something a little different than what they were used to before.
"More family oriented. I wanted the place for females to go to to have just as much fun as the men drivers. I want female drivers. Kids, family -- it's all going to be something fun to go to on a Saturday night," said co-owner Gerald Williams.
Williams, both a racer and racing fan, now owns Owosso Speedway along with his brother, Kenneth.
It's an opportunity he wanted to capitalize on quickly.
The brothers are planning to redo the facilities, restrooms, bleachers and more.
But a lot will stay the same. Racers can expect test & tune on Wednesdays just like before and race fans can come out and enjoy on Saturday nights - just like before.
Williams says most rules for the track will also remain the same, but on another note, there will be more job opportunities than before.
"All the old employees there we still want them back and continue them. We're going to add some stuff that will also bring from Owosso/Ovid area that will bring job opportunities," Williams said.
He also shared information about the track, saying it would remain asphalt.
"There's multiple circuits that will be put together, some of the Spring Circuit. There's a few different classes that will be coming in there and through the year we'll have different circuits coming in," Williams said.
The brothers are working on the schedule and ask you to stay connected to Facebook for updates.
