New roof installed for winner of C&L Ward’s ‘Shingles for Shelter’ contest
(12/20/16) - Christmas came early for a homeowner in Burton.
Roofers braved frigid temperatures to install a new roof for Gidget Arcand, a gift from C&L Ward after the single mom was selected from 77 nominations in their annual "Shingles for Shelter" contest.
2016 has been a tough year for the school secretary, who underwent surgery in September for what doctors thought was cancer.
Arcand, described by her co-workers at Freeman Elementary as the "kindest" and "most giving" individual they know, found herself on the "receiving" end Tuesday.
"It's amazing how people come together for you, sometimes you don't even think they realize you're there and that you have so much influence on their life for them to come and help me out, so it's awesome. I'm very grateful,” Arcand said.
Last month, co-workers surprised Arcand with the news that she had won the new roof - a gift valued at $10,000-$12,000.
It couldn't have come at a better time - the mother of two joking that the new roof will make it easier for Santa to land his sleigh this year.
