Oak Street Health opens new facility in Burton
(04/03/2019) - A new health facility is coming to Genesee County. Oak Street Health in partnership with HAP will open its new healthcare center in Burton at 3525 Saginaw Road on April 15. Oak Street Health is a network of centers that provide primary care services to Medicare recipients. This will be the company's sixth center in Michigan.
"We're not in a rush we have the time to sit with folks to listen to them, hear about their concerns and to partner with them to meet their health goals," Dr. Mark Bustamante said. He will work at the new center. He said this type of care was well overdue in the Flint area.
"Many health indicators are lacking here so we're excited to be part of that effort by bringing primary care to neighborhoods that really don't have sufficient access to primary care," he said.
A second Oak Street Health building will open at the end of July on Pierson Road in Flint. Both locations will offer a total of 50 jobs.
"We're very excited to have people from the community working in the centers and reaching back out into their own communities."
Besides medical needs like high blood pressure, diseases, asthma, or diabetes, doctors will also shine a light on behavioral health.
"We have social workers, working on some of the obstacles that occurs in peoples' lives as well, we have behavioral health services, treatment of depression, anxiety and those other burdens people have," Bustamante.
If anyone needs a ride to their appointment, transportation is available. Bustamante said it's crucial that patients do not miss appointments.
"If they can't come in we don't get a chance to partner with them and help them with their health goals.
