Huron County police involved in deadly shooting of 49-year-old

HURON COUNTY (WJRT) - (03/02/19) - Michigan State Police detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting in the village of Sebewaing.

Huron County Sheriff's deputies and officers with the Sebewaing Police Department were called to diffuse a situation of a man threatening suicide.

Police say the 49-year-old was inside his home, armed with a handgun. He was also inside the home with his mother and girlfriend.

Around 2:15 a.m. police say he shot his girlfriend. That's when police entered the home in an effort to rescue her.

Police say gunfire was exchanged with the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The girlfriend was transported to Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon and then transferred to Hurley Medical Center in Flint, where she is in stable condition.

Police say the mother was not hurt.

Authorities did not immediately identify the 59-year-old.
