Old Newsboys of Flint kick off holiday season with annual charity program

MUNDY TOWNSHIP (WJRT) - (11/01/2018) - The Old Newsboys of Flint's Christmas Box Program is officially open for under-served families to apply.

Last year the organization helped 6,179 kids in Genesee County, and this year it is poised to do even more.

"Last year Flint Engine raised over $18,000 for the Newsboys. This year we're hoping to beat that goal, raise more; do great things in the community. We helped 6,000 families inside Genesee County last year and we're hoping to do the very same thing this year and then some," said Courtney Patterson, Old Newsboys of Flint and Flint Engine.

There was a big celebration Thursday during the program's kickoff breakfast. The organization accepted two major donations, including th a nearly $17,000 check from UAW Local 659 and nearly $9,000 from Brad Brown and Complete Runner.

Enrollment is open through December 21. You can stop by Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the office on 6255 Taylor Drive. The office is closed between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.

The annual paper sale is happening Friday, December 14.
