(07/29/17) - A group with a serious mission found a fun way to raise money and awareness.

It was called Painting for a Cause.

Members and supporters of the Saginaw Chapter Parents of Murdered Children hosted the event at U Me Paint.

They enjoyed artist therapy, allowing them to relax and unwind.

"It's an opportunity to kind of deal with your feelings. The canvas is the perfect place to put your feelings on. You can unleash your, whatever you're feeling," said Kujuanna Ray, owner of U Me Paint.

The group was created at a time when Saginaw was dealing with dozens of murders a year.

Founder Barbara Clark lost her 17-year-old son in 1998.

"Once funerals are over with and everyone goes home, you have no one there to support you through your grieving process and we want to let you know that we're here for that," Clark said.

Parents of Murdered Children meet every fourth Saturday at U Me Paint.

It is located in the 300 block of Hamilton Street in Saginaw.
