FLUSHING TOWNSHIP (WJRT) (9/5/2019) - An armed robbery of a Flushing Township party store led to a manhunt and a large police presence, including two schools placed in secure mode.
The robbery took place around 7:30 a.m. Thursday at Bear's Corner Party Store at the intersection of Coldwater and Elms roads. The suspect was arrested about four miles away in the afternoon.
Police had a large perimeter set up stretching east to Smith Drive while K-9 units attempted to track the suspect. Flushing Middle School and Elms Elementary School were in secure mode until 1:45 p.m. Thursday.
Police from Flushing Township, the Genesee County Sheriff's Office and Michigan State Police were investigating and searching for the suspect. A Michigan State Police helicopter was circling in the area.
Police arrested the suspect during a traffic stop around 2:45 p.m. in the area of Elms and Potter roads in Flushing Township, about four miles south of the robbery.
The suspect was taken to the Genesee County Jail while awaiting criminal charges in the case.
