RICHFIELD TOWNSHIP (WJRT) (12/7/2017) - One person died and two others received burns from a house fire in Richfield Township on Thursday afternoon.
The Davison-Richfield Fire Department was first to respond around 1:10 p.m. at the corner of Irish and Mt. Morris roads.
A 70-year-old disabled veteran who uses a walker was trapped inside amid reports of explosions in the house and a vehicle fire outside the house. The man's daughter-in-law said he was trying to escape but he fell over onto a couch, where his body was found.
The victim's wife and son, who were trying help him outside, both received burns. They were transported to the Hurley Medical Center Burn Unit from the scene.
The extent of their burns was not immediately known.
Firefighters mounted an aggressive interior attack on the fire before conditions became too dangerous and forced them out of the home. They then started attacking the fire from outside.
Flames could still be seen shooting from the house nearly two hours after the fire started.
There was no immediate word on where the fire started inside the house or what may have sparked it. A fire marshal was at the scene to help investigate the cause.
