MIDLAND (WJRT) (1/3/2019) - Police are still investigating whether a 73-year-old man who caused a deadly crash in Midland was drunk.

The Midland Police Department believes Gary Gatza was intoxicated when he crossed the center line of M-20 near Currie Parkway and hit a Chevrolet Tahoe on New Year's Day.

The driver of the Tahoe, 45-year-old Stanley Dulaney Jr. of Midland, died at the scene. His passengers ages 44, 21 and 6 are recovering from injuries they sustained in the crash.

Police say Gatza was driving recklessly eastbound on M-20 when someone spotted him around Homer Road just before the crash farther east at Currie Parkway.

Gatza was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries. Police took toxicology samples from him and they were still being evaluated on Thursday.

The case has been forwarded to the Midland County Prosecutor's Office, which will decide whether any criminal charges should be filed.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call the Midland Police Department at 989-839-4713.
