(01/22/19) - Several law enforcement agencies are searching for a pickup truck driver accused of shooting a Saginaw Township police officer early Tuesday.

Investigators say officer Jeff Koenig was making a traffic stop early Tuesday morning when he was shot in the face. It happened a little after 2 a.m. on Tittabawassee Road near Bay Road in Kochville Township.

Police are looking for 29-year-old Joshua Rosebush, who was previously wanted for a string of vehicle thefts and thefts from vehicles in Tuscola County earlier this month.

Police say Koenig had serious injuries but was able to run back to his car and radio for help. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was being treated late Tuesday morning.

Saginaw Township Police Chief Don Pussehl said Koenig was being airlifted to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor for further treatment. He remained in critical but stable condition late Tuesday morning.

Koenig is a 16-year veteran of the department.

Several school districts around Saginaw and Clare counties were operating in secure mode Tuesday while police continued searching for Rosebush.

Police believe Rosebush was driving a white Ford F-250 pickup truck with AIS Construction Equipment decals on the side. That pickup truck was located in the Home Depot parking lot on Corunna Road in Flint Township.

Police believe Rosebush may be in the Flint area. Investigators say Rosebush removed his probation tether and should be considered armed and dangerous.

A police tactical team was surrounding a house near Linden Road and Lenrose Drive around noon. That is about a mile from where the stolen AIS truck was located at the Home Depot.

Police cleared the scene on Linden Road after about an hour. Authorities say Rosebush may have stolen another vehicle and could be on the loose somewhere in Genesee County.

Anyone who sees Rosebush should call 911 immediately. Police are asking the public not to approach him.

Police already were looking for Rosebush in connection with a string of vehicle thefts and thefts from vehicles on Jan. 3. The Tuscola County Sheriff's Office is asking residents in the Vassar area to remain vigilant, as he has connections there.

The Vassar Police Department began investigating a stolen vehicle complaint at 6:20 a.m. Jan. 3 on West Maple Street. Soon after, several other residents nearby reported someone had broken into their vehicles overnight.

The stolen vehicle was later located in the ditch in the area of Garner and Wilder roads north of the city. Several other residents on Wilder Road also reported their vehicles had been broken into.
