TITTABAWASSEE TOWNSHIP (WJRT) (11/5/2018) - Police identified the 14-year-old girl and 68-year-old man who died after a vehicle ran a stop sign in Tittabawassee Township on Saturday.

Marc Bingham of Merrill was driving west on Vasold Road around 5:50 p.m. when he ran the stop sign at North Gleaner Road, according to the Tittabawassee Township Police Department.

He hit the passenger side of a vehicle driven by 42-year-old Matthew Mantei of Freeland traveling north on Gleaner Road. His daughter, 14-year-old Bailee Mantei, died at the scene.

Bingham, 68, was taken to Covenant HealthCare hospital in Saginaw, where he died later Saturday. Matthew Mantei was taken to Covenant for treatment of serious injuries.

Investigators say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The Mantei family issued the following statement Monday as they grieve their loss:

Bailee Suzanne Mantei was kind, beautiful, big hearted, athletic, with a huge love for soccer, intelligent, and incredibly funny. She took pride in the fact that she was the VP of her Freshman class at Freeland High School. More than anything she made an impact on everyone she came in contact with. She was the light of our family that can never be replaced.

Her father is home and grieving with his family. We thank you all for your prayers and support, and ask that you respect our family’s privacy.

Funeral arrangements for Mantei had not been finalized Monday afternoon. A community prayer service in her honor was scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday at St. Agnes Parish in Freeland.
