UPDATE: Search for missing 2-year-old stretches past midnight in heavily wooded area

Gabriella Vitale was last seen around 8:15 a.m. on Reber Road near M-33 in Comins Township.

Her family is from the Monroe area and they are camping in Oscoda County since last week. Family members were packing up and preparing to leave when they lost track of her.

Gabriella was last seen wearing a pink zip-up coat, a gray shirt, pink bottoms and tennis shoes. Searchers found her coat around 6 p.m. several hundred yards southeast of where she was last seen, according to Michigan State Police.

The Oscoda County Sheriff's Office, Michigan State Police and Michigan Department of Natural Resources have joined the search for Gabrielle. A helicopter is flying overhead to help search crews, including K-9s, on the ground.

An MSP mobile command unit arrived in the area Monday evening to aid search crews into the night. As of 10 p.m. Gabriella remained missing.

Anyone searching the area is asked to back away and call police if they find traces of her. That will allow K-9 tracking teams and investigators the chance to collect evidence before it gets disturbed.
