Valley Coney Island gets a new name, location but keeps same recipes

CLAYTON TOWNSHIP (WJRT) - (10/17/17) A long time Mid-Michigan restaurant has moved to a new location.

Valley Coney Island had been located near the intersection of Miller and Linden roads in Flint Township for 34 years. The original owners are retiring and turning operations over to their son, who has changed the name a little.

The new location of Valley's is a little smaller but they brought with them the same employees and the same great recipes. The restaurant is on Elms Road a half mile north of Corunna Road in Clayton Township.

"It was difficult to leave Miller Road. It was a nice area," said Lena Bakousidis, former owner.

But after 34 years in the restaurant business, it was time for the next generation to take over. The Bakousidises are turning things over to their son.

"We still use the same recipes as my grandmother was doing back their since 1983," said Philip Bakousidis, the new owner.

They've been in the new location for about two weeks now.

"All of our customers followed us. It was very touching," said Lena.

"It's just a perfect spot for us. Good parking," said Virginia Cook, a long-time customer.

The menu has expanded a little and they hope to offer beer and wine soon.

"We do everything by scratch back there, every single day," said Philip.

The Valley's Breakfast and Bistro is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and offers a banquet hall for private parties. The new location means the original owners can put in fewer hours.

"Sometimes good things have to come to an end and start a new chapter," said Lena.

What's to become of the old location? Well, the new owners plan to demolish this building by next spring and something new will be built on this site.
