(6/15/20) - Russia has sentenced a Michigan man to 16 years in prison on spying charges.

Paul Whelan was first taken into custody in December 2018 while attending a wedding in Moscow.

The former Marine from Novi has maintained his innocence as his family rallied for his release.

The U.S. Embassy has said there was no evidence of a crime.
