FLINT (WJRT) - (12/07/16) - The Ruth Mott Foundation is expanding its operation in Flint with the grand opening of a new office on the city's north side to serve some of the most underprivileged areas.
The woman who runs the office, Tryphena Clarke, lives just three blocks from their new office at Christ Enrichment Center, 322 E. Hamilton Ave.
Clarke knows what people on the north side of Flint are going through and what they need to recover.
"We have had a lot of things that have happened over the last years, not just the water crisis, but GM leaving. A lot of people are discouraged, some times feel hopeless," Clarke said.
It's the first time the non-profit opened up a space outside of the downtown headquarters - that's because the need is great.
The foundation spends more than $6 million per year. Clarke is here to make sure those dollars go to good use.
They'll hold meetings and engage with the community to see where that money is needed most.
"As we are planning out what activities or grants we want to fund, that their voices are a part of that planning process," Clarke said.
